Unity 03:52
Reality doesn't make that much sense to me It's hard to see how it's inevitable that this bizarre collage would be And if it's not then why did it happen to turn out like this Tryn' to find a separate cause just begs an infinite regress I guess I should sing more and talk less I've learned enough from books to make an educated mess But then I see you here and my confusion disappears and everything gets crystal clear And light floods from your face It makes good on the illusion of time and space All the edges bleed and I'm a part of what I see An unmistakable unity Our destiny is written down irrevocably in the stars The laws of nature leave no latitude in what we do or who we are But so what if free will is just one more delusion to let go of Sit back and let the story unfold to feel love So I don't blame you for the things you've done to cut me down to size I know that you've been hurt too and it couldn't be otherwise Accordingly I can forgive myself 'cuz I know I'm blameless too The only thing that's left to do Is to catch the light that floods from your eyes It conveys a shade of feeling that I cannot describe My defenses fall and I yield to what I see A self-sufficient unity And light floods from your face It makes good on the illusion of time and space All the edges bleed and I'm a part of what I see An unmistakable unity

The sacred quiet greets you at the door Your spirit gently rising through the floors Ten million lives laid on the shelves to know An impossible immensity to hold the weight of such august assays as these A burden that when carried sets you free The hours engrossed in depths to comprehend In solitude amongst familiar friends Drink deep Only then pour out your heart The eternal snows appear already past The first clouds and mountains seem the last But those attained we tremble to survey The growing labors of the lengthened way Drink deep Only then pour out your heart

Sing For Me 02:41
Timeworn tools of the trade help you make it through Keep on turning tricks to get by until they're a part of you It's been so long since your voice rang out The things that we've been through have saddled us both with doubts But it would take away the pain if you could find it in your heart to sing for me We've each made our bargain, the world takes its due, but if you would let down your walls then I know that your soul would shine through And it would chase my cares away if you could open up your heart and sing for me Unspoken words, too true to say Guess we fell out of step somewhere along the way But it would wipe the hurt away if you could find it in your heart to sing for me Yeah it would take away the pain if you would open up your heart and sing for me

about

Turtle Money Sandwich's second release, "Essay," is just a short thing--three songs. But I sometimes can't believe I get to do the instrumentation for songs of this quality.

Did you ever listen to lyrics over and over and over, and keep getting something new out of them every time? My pal Poet Jim recently told me that if a poem gives you feelings that you can't put into words, its done its job. When Brian first sent me his voice/guitar demos of these tunes, I got chills, tears, goosebumps, warm feelings. Cindy and I danced around, hugged, and smiled.

I believe in these lyrics and melodies, and I brought all I could to the table to frame them up into the best recordings I could make.

I would love for you to listen to this music.

I'm not expecting a lot of listeners, but I think if you're one of the few, you might be glad you did.

❤️
